Cancer Awareness Goes Nationwide on College Campuses

Kappa Phi Gamma and My Hope Chest are joining forces to bring awareness about a little known truth of cancer in America.  Every Spring, Kappa Phi Gamma chapters around the nation plan Cancer Awareness: a Real Effort! (C.A.R.E.) Week, a week long series of events dedicated to raising funds for a cancer organization and to bring awareness to the community about the truths of cancer. My Hope Chest is the 2017 beneficiary of their 12 university campaign. C.A.R.E. Week has been a national event since 2014 and has been recognized by the Asian Cup Award and has donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to the understanding of cancer in women in America.

My Hope Chest helps women attain free breast reconstruction after a mastectomy, helping restore a woman’s quality of life after cancer. “Kappa Phi Gamma’s support of our mission will play a key role in building awareness of breast-less women that fall through the cracks of medical care, lacking funding for their reconstruction,” says Alisa Savoretti, Founder and CEO of My Hope Chest.

The following schools are involved in the event: Temple University, George Mason University, New York Institute of Technology, University of the Sciences, University of Houston, The University of Texas at Austin, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Virginia Commonwealth University, Rutgers University-Newark and Brunswick, Drexel University, and University of Massachusetts, Amherst. "Every year we ask Chapters to nominate organizations, then the national Board selects the final charity. We specifically choose to direct our efforts to grassroots charities, not as well funded as the large cancer organizations.  We believe our sorority's efforts will have a larger impact on a smaller charity.  We especially loved and resonated with My Hope Chest's unique mission, specific to womanhood and pride in self after cancer... they embody Kappa Phi Gamma's mission, giving and everything that it means to be a sorority."  says Angela James, VP of External Affairs, Kappa Phi Gamma.

About My Hope Chest:
Established in 2003, My Hope Chest is the only national 501c3 social service organization focused on reconstructive surgery for uninsured and under insured breast cancer survivors. We are moved to ACT and our goal is to heal and provide closure to the breast cancer journey. By enabling those who desire reconstruction to have it, My Hope Chest works to help all survivors return to a “new” normal with feelings of hope, self-worth and completeness.
